Effect of Fonow ointment (Compound Polymyxin B Ointment, Triple Antibiotic Ointment) combined with narrow-spectrum red light irradiation on postoperative wound healing and serum EGF and IL-33 levels in patients with perianal abscess

Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of Fonow ointment     (Compound Polymyxin B Ointment, Triple Antibiotic Ointment) combined with      narrow-spectrum red light irradiation on postoperative wound healing and      serum epidermal growth factor (EGF) and interleukin-33 (IL-33) levels in      patients with perianal abscess. Methods Ninety-six patients with perianal      abscess treated in Sun Simiao Hospital/Tongchuan Hospital of Traditional      Chinese Medicine of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine from February      to June 2022 were selected for the study, and were divided into a control      group and a study group using the randomized numerical table method, with      48 cases in each group. Both groups were subjected to incision and      drainage for the treatment of perianal abscess, the control group was      treated with conventional antimicrobial drugs for anti-infection after      surgery, and the study group was treated with Fonow ointment (Compound      Polymyxin B Ointment, Triple Antibiotic Ointment) combined with      narrow-spectrum red light irradiation on the basis of the control group,      comparing the clinical efficacy of the two groups, the wound healing and      the scores on the Short Form of the Survey of Health Status (SF-36), as      well as the levels of serum EGF and IL-33 before and after the treatment.      Results After treatment, the total effective rate of the study group      (93.75%) was significantly higher than that of the control group (77.08%),      and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After      treatment, the trauma granulation tissue growth score, trauma secretion      score, and visual analog scale (VAS) score of the study group were      significantly lower than those of the control group, and the healing time      of the trauma was significantly shorter than that of the control group,      and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After      treatment, the scores of physical health, mental health, social function,      and daily living condition of both groups were significantly higher than      those before treatment, and the above scores of the research group were      significantly higher than those of the control group after treatment, with      statistically significant differences (P<0.05). After treatment, serum EGF level was      significantly higher and IL-33 level was significantly lower in both      groups, and the difference was statistically significant compared with      that before treatment (P<0.05). After treatment, the EGF level of the      study group was significantly higher than that of the control group, and      the IL-33 level was significantly lower than that of the control group,      and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Fonow      ointment (Compound Polymyxin B Ointment, Triple Antibiotic Ointment)      combined with narrow-spectrum red light irradiation in the treatment of      patients with perianal abscess is conducive to wound healing, can      alleviate the postoperative pain of perianal abscess, increase the level      of serum EGF, reduce the level of IL-33, and improve the quality of life      of patients, and the clinical efficacy is obvious.
